What is the "External" tag showing in email messages?

IT have enabled the "External" tag in Outlook as a visual indicator to appear on emails sent from external senders, meaning those who are not part of our Organization's domain. This tag is intended to enhance security awareness by warning users that the email originates from outside of the organization. It helps you to recognize potential phishing or malicious emails, urging caution when opening links or attachments.

The external tag typically appears at the top of the email message or in the subject line.

Example of External tag in action is illustrated below. Please noticed that both emails come from the same person but only one message was sent from outside of the organization, meaning, the email address does not contain cdcfoundation.org as domain.

If you have any inquiries on the External tag, please contact us.

Thank you.
